GOOD NEWS!

This came to me by way of an e-mail sent to me by another daughter of mine (adult) who lives in Austin. I wanted to share it with you. As it states at the bottom of this e-mail, all of these facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense website.

DID YOU KNOW THIS?

- Did you know that 47 countries have re-established their embassies in Iraq?
- Did you know that the Iraqi government employs 1.2million Iraqi people?
- Did you know that 3,100 schools have been rennovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 schools are now under construction and 28 new schools have been built in Iraq?
- Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers?
- Did you know that 25 Iraqi students departed for the United States in January 2004 for the re-established Fullbright program?
- Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational? They have 5 - 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment.
- Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operation squadrons, reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 bell jet rangers?
- Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion?
- Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers?
- Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq that produce over 3,500 new officers every 8 weeks?
- Did you know there are more than 1,100 building projects going on in Iraq?
They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electical facilities.
- Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?
- Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid-October?
- Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%?
- Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?
- Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004 and that the Iraqi economy is booming?
- Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a recent televised debate recently?

OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!
WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW!
OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!

The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves only one purpose. It undermines the world's perception of the United States and our soldiers!

All of these facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense website - and many other independent sources.

Great post Gayle! I've had that e-mail sitting on my desk at work for months now. Every time some moonbat wants to tell me that we're never going to succeed in Iraq, I just point to that and shake my head. Some people want an American defeat so bad they can't stand it.

Thank you, nightcrawler.

I know. Isn't it pathetic? I have one thing to say to that:
IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

May God Bless this country and God Bless our troops.

Thanks, MMR! The Democratic party is nothing like it was when FDR and Harry S. Truman were around. It has been overtaken by aliens! :)

Great post Gayle! Just makes you want to say, "See, we told you so!" to all the haters.
And they say there's no media bias. Hmmmm....

You forgot to say "Hooah!", so I'll do it for you.

So, does this mean that conservatives are now in favor of nation building? Because that's not what George W. Bush explicitly said in 2000.

First, I would suggest looking for sources to verify this data that are less partisan. The DOD has a vested political interest in making Iraq look as rosy as possible. I read quite a bit of their press releases, particularly from Rumsfeld, and they are, for the most part, chock full of disinformation and political doublespeak. In any case, I searched the DOD site for some time and couldn't verify the information in that email to any reliable degree.

Look, no rational person, Left or Right, is going to say that progress in Iraq is a bad thing. Of course it's not. Those people have been through 30 years of war and oppression and deserve their opportunity. I think it's great that we're rebuilding the country and helping them get on the right track.
However, this doesn't change the fact that there is a violent insurgency going on each day. It doesn't change the fact that creating a new democracy was only the stated goal of our invasion after the WMD hoax was dispelled. It doesn't change the fact that there is a very real possibility of a protracted civil war in the country. And it doesn't change the fact that Bush and his Administration lied about Iraq and Americans died for those lies. Yes, there has been some progress. But the real question is, can it be sustained and at what cost in blood and treasure?

One final thing: can we at last dispense with this garbage that the Left "hates the troops" please? What makes any of you think that we have any fewer friends and family members in Iraq than you do? We love the troops and we want them home, out of harms way, where they belong. The idea that we should support the President just because he uses the military is garbage, as well. That's how military dictatorships are started. Can't you see that refusing to be critical of how our military is used gives our elected officials a blank check to make as much war as they like? Their children aren't serving! Ours are. Speaking out against the abuse of our military is not a disservice to the troops. It's our responsibility as Americans.

Sigh, I hate explaining this to liberals all the time.

Go to http://iraqwarzone.blogspot.com and click on the editorials link or go to http://darksaturos.blogspot.com

That'll explain it to you. Because frankly I'm sick of telling it to people, so I'm just posting it and giving out the adresses.

The delusion among wingerbots is astounding. Don't you ever ask yourselves why about 4 in 5 people think your Lord is selling us a pig in a poke?

By every standard of measure available today, life in Iraq is worse-much worse-than it was under Saddam Hussein. This, believe it or not, is what is driving the insurgency, not Michael Moore, not John Kerry, not Ellen Degeneres.

Wingerbots? I'm sure you've read a whole lot here. This blog is pretty nuetral.

Don't give me the life was worse with Saddam crap. Iraq is still awaiting leadership and soon after that, problems will be solved.

You have no faith in our military or our country. I know exactly why you came on here anonymously.

I'd love to start a patriotic conversation here sometime, so it would be awesome if I could post.

Anyway, if you'd like to reach me, my email is
