Why do you care?

I was flicking through channels on my television today and I go by the oh so wonderful station E!. After 5 seconds I learned that Paris Hilton has a new pet. Oh wow, that is just so cool *sarcasm intended*. So I've been thinking, why does the majority of America care? Why?

Why do you care about these so called "celebrities"? Why do you care about who's dating who in a group of people you'll never meet? Why do you care about what they did on their weekend? Why do you care about what they're good at?

I'll be honest with you right now, I hate celebrities. They're all greedy brats who think just because they were the loud mouths in 6th grade and got free money because of it they are more important than you. Come on. I'm more talented than some of these people.

Do people really think this is news? Like it's something they really need to know? Instead of watching the 5:00 news people will watch a documentary about some obscure hard rock band from the '70s. These people don't know what is going on in the world, all they can do is keep a log of what Brittany Spears wears everyday, and whenever she makes a new music video, that's their news. "did you see the new music video? I can't believe she wore that, I wonder what it is, I want one". Do they even know there's a war going on? Call me crazy but at times like this I think the news is just a tinny bit more important.

But if these people want to be brainwashed, that's fine with me, but these people are voting! They don't know what they're talking about. They only base their vote on what they look like. Kerry probably lost last election because of that horrid botox. Not that I wanted him to win, but I mean come on. They have no idea!

So I've come to my conclusion.

Our news stations need to take E!. And what I mean by that is make it entertaining, but in it's own way of course. We can have three hour long documentaries on people who matter; like presidents, on the news stations. Instead of the who's dating who game or the who's wearing what game, the news stations should have a who's lying to who, or who's doing what.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to dumb down the news stations, but we do need to have more people watching them than their beloved E!.

Politics can be fun! In fact I am more entertained taking in politics than hearing the who's dating who game on E!.

So, if you are one of those E! Watching zombies, please, please change the channel. Put it on something that matters. News stations. The History channel. The Discovery channel (when they're not doing that motorcycle crap). PBS for all I care, just put it on something that matters!

Celebrities are an escape from reality. So is music, and movies, and everything else that allows a temporary break from what truly matters. It is because the world holds so many terrible realities that people are forced to find a release in the unreal, in the exhaggerated, and in the overly dramatic.

It's still extraordinarily futile and a complete waste of time. If the whole state of California were to fall into the sea, I wouldn't even turn on the television to watch it unless it was to make sure it's really gone.

Good points Cody. I agree 100%. Funny how you hear more about these people who sing this kind of junk then people who are actually changing the world.

Indeed.

Umm... I feel out of the loop here. I have never watched "E" nor have I ever watched "Current." Truth be known, I only watch the local news anymore because I don't trust the MSM.

I have to say Allisoni has a point here. People didn't go to the movies to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" during WWII because it was too serious. They wanted musicals and mindless entertainment to relieve their minds from what was going on. "It's a Wonderful Life" only made it big much later on television. I'm afraid it 'tis the natural nature of the beast called "human" to hide head in sand when under threat. Perhaps you and I, Cody, as well as many others, weren't standing in line when the Lord passed out the "hide head in sand" gene! :)

Thanks for the spam dkfz, that's just what I need more of.

From what I've heard Air America won't be living much longer with their lack in money, support, and listeners. Sorry, but talk radio is a Conservative thing, it just is. The left has other forms of media the're good at, but talk radio is a right wing thing. It just is.

allisoni balloni: an escape from reality, huh? couldnt have said it better myself. Thats why their political views are twisted to the point of nonreality. For celebritys to be an escape from reality, thier minds have to be constantly away from reality, which they are.

I meant an escape from reality in the sense that those viewing do so because they are so sick of what's going on in the world. Celebrities ARE real people and have opinions too, and there are just as many conservative stars who speak out as there are liberals.

"Smokin! and Hooah" are among the highest compliments I can pay you, sweetness!

Allisoni: That there are just as many conservative stars who speak out as there are liberals I must take acception to. Where? Somewhere in an alternate universe perhaps? Certainly not in this one! And even if there were, I don't think, simply because they are movie stars, anyone should put any more weight into what they say than they would in what you or I say.

I kind of like the "motorcycle crap" show.

haha, so does my mom! As long as you don't live off from shows like that and get some educational or informative stuff on your tv too, I've got no problem.

This post was geared toward the kinds of people who watch usless things like that 24/7 and have no idea what's going on in the world.
