REMEMBERING

(Note: This post is also posted at www.myrepublicanblog.blogspot.com)

The following poem was written by a third grader from Academy Elemetary School in Madison, Connecticut. A third grader!

REMEMBERING

Red, white and blue
For those we knew
Who marched off to war.
We honor them now
And show them how
Their bravery we can't ignore.

Heroes of war,
They were so much more,
Father and brother and friend.
Flags at half mast
For those of the past
To whom our gratitude we send.

We place flowers on the graves
Of those who were brave,
We salute them far and wide.
Seeing poppies galore
While our hearts soar,
remembering proudly those who have died.

This poem was written by Luke, also a 3rd grader from Academy Elementary School:

MEMORIAL DAY

Remember the brave soldiers who gave their lives
For our freedom,
God Bless them all these courageous
Men and women.

They fought on land,
Others at sea,
Sacrificing their lives for
You and me.

Schools and offices respect these heroes
From the past,
By flying our beautiful flag
At half-mast.

As you watch the parade and hear
The trumpets play,
Please think about what we celebrate on
Memorial Day.

The following picture and poem is from the Arlington Memorial Website:

Caption: "The still-smoldering Pentagon is in the background while a funeral takes place at Arlington National Cemetery, September 2001."

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth
Those who did not come back alive remain
In perpetual springtime -- forever young
And a part of them is with us always

From Sycorax's blog: "Today, we lay to rest Capt. Nichola Goddard, Canada's first female combat officer killed in action. She died not only defending our freedom, but while trying to bring that same freedom to other people. She did not die just a Canadian, or Albertan, or a Calgarian for that matter... She died a hero.

So today, at 11:00 am MST. , I ask you to please take a minute out of your day to pay tribute to not only Capt. Nichola Goddard, but to all of those who have fallen defending our freedom, regardless of their nationality.

Thank you."

Justthinkin' also posted about this hero. It is no longer the day that the above was posted, but I believe she should be remembered too, as we celebrate Memorial Day. The United States and Canada are in this war on Terror together. Let's not forget that. I write this memorial post not only for the men and women who sacrificed so much in past wars, but also in order to celebrate all the "infidels" who fight terrorism on any front. May God bless you all.

Great post Gayle. It's good to see people treat our military with the respect they deserve. Oh, and I don't mean to be picky, but that first picture messes up the sidebar. Do you think you could have it on the left instead of centered, or have it smaller? Thanks.

Sure. I see what you mean. That's weird though, because it didn't mess up the sidebar on My Republican Blog. I shall go fix it! Thanks, Cody. :)

maybe it's just me. Anyways, it looks fine now, so don't worry about it.

It's a great post, but I just wonder how popular Blog America will come with articles that are posted on blogs that are visited more regularly. Just a thought.

It's better because I fixed it Cody. I made it smaller than it was.

Thank you, Jen. I appreciate your sentiment more than you know.

Victoria, your point is valid and is also well-taken. But I have neglected Blog-America seriously, and some people do come here that don't visit My Republican Blog, so all is not in vain. I am on a tight time-schedule these days.

Great post Gayle!

I share the concern about re-posting on more trafficked blogs. That's why I didn't re-post any of my other posts. Problem is, I don't think my normal readers made the trek over here to read them! Grrrr... Anyhow, good work!

Yes, Nightcrawler, that is what I mean. The readers of our blogs, at least the majority of them, do not read this one. That's why re-posting on this blog will work.

If, when we visited, we left a url to this blog, perhaps that would help pick up traffic. It's an idea. What do you think?

Thank you Nunzia.

Here it is the day before Independence Day and no one has posted anything. Oh well, guess I'll bite the bullet.

Blessings to all. Happy Fourth! :)
