Google Earth, Everyone Thinks it's Cool

As cool as this program is, when you think about it, it could be dangerous.

For those of you who don't know what Google Earth is, it is a free online program where you can search for a place by the name of the town, street, building, etc. , and get a high resolution picture of the area and it's coordinates.

Sounds pretty cool huh? The terrorists think it's pretty cool too. They can log on to the internet with their laptops, go on to the website, type in LAX, get the exact coordinates, program the coordinates into a missile, and boom. Still like Google Earth? Me neither.

As cool as this program is, it is not something that we should put in the hands of the public, there is just too much risk. The government needs to be using this technology, not average Joe or Mohammed Al-Mohammed Mohammed. It's just too risky.

That's been my issue with it since it's inception.. Apparently, Google doesn't see that issue or care about it, one or the other...

And BTW, I linked this blog at mine, but I can't approve the web ring for the other blog until you set the ring code somewhere on the blog...

As much as I love to do things I don't know how, this may be too over my head. I'm going to need to upgrade one of my contributors to an admin who is good at programming and stuff. Anyone?

OK Cody, No problem, just drop me a note at fredshatemail@excite.com and I'll approve you when ya get it done...

Love this site too... Submit ALL your blogs to the Web Ring... It's just another way to get em in front of more people...

Guys guys, let not get paranoid. You do know that the government gives the wrong elevation data as well as some other stuff and censors these things accordingly right? Its made so people can't do that kind of thing. Only military GPS can be used for that.

Yes, DarkSaturos is right. It is after all, a google program and the coordinates are not 100% accurate. Also I don't think a terrorist is going to go on google earth and look it up on there. They would probably look for a more reliable source. Unfortunatly, the terrorists are not as dumb as we would like to think.

Phantom Driver,

I hope you are kidding when you said "Thanks a lot Mr.Gates."(I think you are.) After all, I don't think he was thinking a terrorist would use his program to crash into the world trade center. As I said before, these terrorists are not stupid.

The technology is already out there whether or not Google Earth exists. GIS (Geographic Info Systems) is available for purchase anywhere, and most of the images are available for the whole US and much of the world.

Besides, you can get exact coordinates from other sources besides computer maps.

fyi.

As to the accuracy issues raised by Mr. Saturos, that is no longer the case. Submeter coordinates are easy enough to come by.

So, feel free to be as paranoid as you want.

Really? That IS kind of scary. Id have to look into it though to be sure.

Still Cody, you have to admit when you start censoring things it leads to big government. Plus I trust the defense measures we have in place.

Or communism. Just look a China, they censored the internet. I think we should do away with the program altogether, but that's just me being paranoid.
